Psalm 46:10 – Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. KJV

Sometimes I just get so frustrated. Frustrated when my plans don’t come to fruition, frustrated when I am unable to complete certain tasks on time, frustrated when I feel like God is silent. I’m sure I’m not the only one who has experienced these frustrating scenarios, especially the last one.

It’s not a nice position to be in whereby you feel like  your prayers are just reaching the ceiling even though you’ve tried everything to make sure they’re not. However, I’ve come to realise that God really does speak but often times we miss what He’s trying to say because we’re not still enough to hear Him. That probably doesn’t make any sense but let me try to explain.

In Psalm 46:10 God gives us an instruction; to be still. The very act of us going down on our knees and praying to God shows that we have acted upon the second part of the scripture as the reason we pray to Him and take our worries and burdens to Him is because we know that He is God. But have you ever prayed a prayer where your burdens seem so heavy and your emotions are just getting the better of you? Well, we often fail to catch what God is doing or saying and believe God is silent because we are unable to obey the first instruction, we are unable to mute the frustration of our situation and we are unable to just be still.

when God says be still, He isn’t talking about the stillness of the physical body but the stillness of your inner self; the stillness of your heart, mind and soul. We become so engrossed in the intricacies of life and forget that God is actually a God of simplicity and while we expect Him to answer with a miraculous sign, or a loud voice (which He can do because He is God and He will do His own pleasure Isaiah 46:10) sometimes He speaks with a small gesture and a tender, loving whisper.

I want to highlight something else. I believe God is very intentional especially when it comes to His Word and how It was written. The bible says, “be still, and know that I am God”. Notice the word “and”, which acts as a conjunctive: meaning that this word connects the two sentences together. I personally believe that God included the word “and” because He wanted to show the connection between being still and knowing that He is God. Meaning that being still is not just an instruction but a requirement in order to know Him to the full extent in which He created you to know Him in.

Really and truly it is the deafening noise of our schedules, timetables, jobs, relationships and situations that restrain our hearts from being still and from knowing that He is God and He can never EVER fail.

What is God trying to say to you? How is He trying to speak to you? Just be still. Be still and hear His Voice weave It’s way through the complexities of your life and into your heart. Be still and recognise Him in every moonbeam and every rain drop. Don’t just listen with your ears but hear Him with your heart. Be still and hear Him. Be still and see Him. Be still and know that He is God.

peace & love xo.

  1. That is so true that we should be still Tari ,what a powerful revelation you’ve shared that ,for us to get the promise of knowing that He is God we have to meet the requirement of being still in the heart, mind and soul.Often the things and promises of God come with a condition don’t they and once you grab that you can have the promises fulfilled one after the other.
I also get that the stillness is also a resting place that God has prepared for us and in us.When you give your life to Christ you receive His Spirit which dwells in the belly, for John 7:38 says that out of their belly shall flow rivers of the living waters of life, and when your inner man rests in Jesus then you become still then you will know that He is God.It is important to live life in that place of rest in the Lord Jesus as He said if we go to Him,He will give us rest -Matthew 11:28.
